Pamela Grail Matthews Artist for Peace and Wisdom
is widely regarded as a leading exponent of Visionary Surrealism.
Inspired by spiritual experiences, her work was initially shown in Academy and solo exhihitions around her native New Zealand.
In London she rediscovered a childhood hero - the pre-Raphaelite Burne-Jones, and Blake, mystical poet and artist. In Florence she was inspired by the art of da Vinci, Lippi and Botticelli.
Bringing these influences home* with her, she has continued to evolve her own style - working in acrylic over-glazing techniques.
Over a 30 year period, her paintings have been reproduced and distributed around the world to more than 20 countries as prints, posters, book covers, cards, a Goddess Deck and the Aura Soma Tarot Deck.
Touring England again in 2006, she exhibited in London and St. Ives, and was a featured presenter at the annual Goddess Conference in Glastonbury.

Home is a rural retreat, The Grail in the Waitakere mountains to the west of Auckland, which she shares with soul mate husband Richard Symons [who she literally painted into her life!].
Two Burmese cats and an abundance of song-birds and tree ferns in an idyllic green valley of indigenous forest. Her muse alternates between studios at The Grail and on Waiheke island.
